3rd Annual Black Farm Tour
GII members attended the 3rd Annual Black Farm Tour, August 2 - 4 this year and had a ball! Members were thrilled to ride along the scenic roads of eastern North Carolina, visit black farmers and enjoy the southern cuisine of the Carolinas. The Black Farm tour is a fundraiser hosted by Triangle Bikeworks, an amazing program that empowers young people of color through cycling and education.
Halifax County, Princeville, Buck Leonard home, and Rocky Mount, the home of this year’s tour, were just a few spaces of history that GII members and fellow cyclists discovered. During the tour, cyclists visited several black-owned farms and businesses in the three-county areas of Nash, Edgecombe, and Halifax. They had the opportunity to meet the owners, hear their stories, and sample their products. Cyclists were treated to traffic-free country roads with breathtaking views, and mouth-watering food at the Farm-to-Table dinner. Cyclists had the option of a 40-mile, 66-mile, or 100-mile routes.
